About Us

Beliefs

We confess Jesus Christ as the Son of the living God, our Savior and Lord.
We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God.
We believe that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
We observe two ordinances: Believer's Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
Finally, we believe that all Christians are called to witness, to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with God.

History

First Baptist Church in Norfolk was founded December 29, 1889 with 11 charter members and Rev. Joseph Cossairt as Pastor. First Baptist has seen many changes in buildings, programs and pastors through the years but the task has remained the same. We seek to faithfully express God's redeeming and reconciling love to our community and the world, bringing the message of Jesus Christ.

"I am so excited to be a part of a church who takes seriously the great commission and the great commandment. I want to be a part of a church that is real, where we don't have to hide who we are and can grow deep in our faith as we encourage and assist one another in that growth. Our goal is to live the genuine Christian faith inviting others to come along and follow this One who has given so much to include us in His Kingdom."
